"Alias Grace" is a show that, normally, would not necessarily come across my radar as something to watch. This is a great series about a young woman who is locked up for murder, she is treated by the guards and her bosses (working as a maid) very poorly, but she knows her place. That was telling to me. The original novel is based on factual events, but it's historical fiction. A quite mesmerising performance. Very much like in her "Handmaid's Tale" Margaret Atwood's heroin Grace is an intelligent low class woman that know better what she should say or not for the sack of her survival. It was so good, I watched all the episodes back to back. A quite mesmerising performance. 10/10.
As Grace tells her story, she is always working: sewing, beating rugs, scrubbing laundry, churning butter... and every single utensil, every button, every slip of thread is utterly real and compelling. 16 out of 26 found this helpful I found this wonderful series by accident on Netflix. Watch this series and marvel at just how good television can be. It was captive, the acting was on point. The leads of this series are superb, especially Sarah Gadon, who almost inhabited Grace to the endangerment of her sanity! Alias Grace is a more approachable novel and highly suitable for an adaptation to television.
