(Note: ^^^That is how the song is actually spelt on the cover. 'Minus' is a short, but sweet two and a half minute song that really gets you going. This song has such a strong drum beat to it, that it will have you air drumming in your seat. That being said, I don't think you want to be caught singing the lyrics, why? I feel as if this song should be higher on the list, but I don't think I like it that much.
It’s a fitting initiation to Beck’s multifarious universe, containing as it does most of the elements necessary for understanding his singular m.o. Like “All In Your Mind,” this song of heartbreak and resignation is one of 'Motherfucker' first appeared on 'Golden Feelings' but the better version is on 'Mellow Gold'. Sure, it does get old quick, but that's not to say it's a bad song. Yeah, it's not my favourite song off the album now, but I still love it and it's still one of my favourite Beck songs. But all the faults aside, it deserves a spot on this list.Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know, I've heard it all before: This song is dull, this song is boring, etc. I still don't think this song should've been the last song, though.
I'm going to be honest with you and say that I'm not a big fan of beck's newest album 'Morning Phase'.
'Ramshackle' is probably my favourite acoustic song from Beck, next to 'Nobody's fault but my own'. Just letting you know.) The main part of the song that grabs me is the vocal melodies; it's catchy and will stick with you. 'O Maria' is a song that will get your fingers clicking. "'Tropicalia' is the main reason why I bought 'Mutations'. Some of mine are, too. Like Bowie, Beck has built a career on restlessness and reinvention, trouncing expectations impishly, almost recklessly. However, the fourth track 'Say Goodbye' really grabs me. It get's stuck in your head so quickly!
Beck boasts one of the most interesting, most schizophrenic discographies of any contemporary artist this side of David Bowie. It's truly a song that you need to listen to. There really isn't much to say about this song. Even though this song is short, it doesn't leave anything out. 'Sweet Sunshine' is a simple song with a simple drum beat and a simple rhythm to it (I wouldn't of guessed). I don't really mind which order you put these two songs, I like them both equally.Here you go! While rock-critic hindsight usually reveals this long-con approach as the thing that separates stars from legends, contenders from trendsetters (or, say, Warren Zevon from Bob Dylan), it also almost guarantees, with each new release, the increasing alienation of entire portions of a fanbase.
It's a slow, noisy song, full of screaming, yelling, hatred and anger. If you'd like something more upbeat and filling, stay away from 'Sweet Sunshine'. I had heard other songs from the album before that, but 'Tropicalia' was the song that made me buy the album. Other than that, the song is beautiful. Whilst Beck is obviously an extremely talented musician, the thing that makes this album for me is the vocals - most of the time he sounds half asleep, but for some reason it seems to work.
