Charlton Athletic old stadium

I was lucky a bus arrived almost immediately, as the football traffic was quickly building up behind us. Many of them observed though with a hint of resignation in their tone that the manager would be the one to carry the can, which within a week was indeed the case. As the case on the way down, the journey took around 5 hours.Overall I very much enjoyed my visit to the Valley and would certainly go again. Before the season kicked off, this was for me an absolute banker as a fixture as I live in north-east Kent, and hence one that I looked out for and ring-fenced in the diary. The matchday atmosphere was very good, the PA system was excellent and really added to things. Living far away in Bridlington, East Yorkshire, it is rare that I get to see a London based team. Just follow the crowds. Unfortunately, it is not possible to walk completely around the outside of the stadium due to a set of red turnstiles and a red gate leading to the home fans North (and I think) East Stands. For the main club entrance and car park go straight over the next roundabout, passing a retail park on the left. This resulted in our driver having to double back & block the road until the Police took an interest in us! The atmosphere within the Valley wasn’t the best however 3,000 away fans created an electric atmosphere. Charlton turned professional in 1920 and first entered Charlton finished second bottom in the Football League in 1926 and were forced to apply for In 1937, Charlton finished runners up in the First Division,From the late 1950s until the early 1970s, Charlton remained a mainstay of the In 1984 financial matters came to a head and the club went into administration, to be reformed as Charlton Athletic.
The trains all seem to go through London Bridge too which is a help.I'm glad I went to both games even though we really needed a win in the league to keep us above the chasing pack.

Luckily my memory served me well as even though it was after 2pm there wasn't the usual throng of crowds to latch onto and follow!

The underground is fine if you want to conduct your life in a very defined set of places. Slightly longer but probably quicker missing out traffic.A great day out especially with 3 points added to it.I enjoy away games in London as they are easy to get to from Cardiff. Obviously this being a fairly recent development there is sadly no floodlights-just a row of lamps along the roofs of the East and West Stands. It was also former MK Dons manager Karl Robinson's first game in charge of The Addicks, just a day after we had appointed boss Robbie Neilson.I travelled by train from Milton Keynes Central and as I had already did the journey a couple of weeks earlier so I was fairly confident with it. we made our way down a hill to the Valley Stadium for 1pm.Finding the Valley Ground is a bit tricky as it is in a residential area.
You can tell this is a Premiership-standard ground, and whilst feeling for Charlton's recent predicament, it's nonetheless great to visit these grounds in Football League action. We sat overlooking the River Thames towards the O2 arena. The game itself was dominated by Forest which resulted in a comfortable 2-0 win, with goals from Radi Majewski and Henri Lansbury. The North Stand is also a decent sized two-tiered structure, an extension having been completed halfway through the 2001/02 season when Charlton were establishing themselves in the Premiership. Whether that was for rival fans or driven by the home supporters opposition for the regime controlling the club I'm not sure. - which we could. My daughter wanted a new Charlton top since it's her team. Straight away and the police directed us a quicker way to the station which is only 5 minutes from the away section. We much enjoyed our day.It had been many years since I last visited the Valley, when I was in my early 20's as a single lad. This was ominous and sure enough, Charlton raced into a 2 goal lead.
