IMAGER GOES WEST ROUTINE (Mode 6) SCHEDULE ----- MESO 1 and MESO 2 frames will each be imaged once a minute at the following times on the minute. Today, GOES-17, the second of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) next-generation geostationary weather satellites, has completed its checkout phase and is now operating in the GOES West position, providing faster, more accurate, and more detailed observations used by National Weather Service forecasters to predict Pacific storm systems, severe storms, fog, wildfires, and other environmental dangers.“GOES-17 is the latest in a series of the most advanced weather satellites which have ever been launched into orbit,” said Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross. GOES-15's drift is intended to provide additional separation from GOES-17 to prevent communication interference. Renamed from GOES-S to GOES-17 on 12 March 2018. Tropical Floater 4.
All GOES-17/GOES-West imagery will be available in SLIDER..
Tropical Floater 2. GOES-17 (currently GOES-West) unfortunately has a problem with it's cooling system.
Beginning at 1800 UTC on 12 February 2019, it became the operational GOES-West satellite (replacing GOES-15, which was launched in March 2010). The period of transition to operational status is shown on Full Disk images of “Red” Visible and Mid-level Water Vapor images (above). ET, from the satellite’s “red visible” channel (ABI Band 2). Tropical Floater 3.
This GeoColor view of Earth, seen from more than 22,000 miles out in space, was captured by the GOES-17 ABI at 4 p.m. Clouds and atmospheric moisture can be seen stretching from the central Pacific toward the U.S. West Coast. This GOES-17 GeoColor imagery shows an area of clouds streaming over a thick plume of brown smoke from the Woolsey Fire in southern California, on Nov. 13, 2018. NOAA's GOES-17 captured an active weather pattern in the Pacific Ocean with a storm hitting the West Coast on Feb. 9. ET on Nov. 13, 2018. GOES-17 shares first full-disk imagery from GOES West position. GOES-17 allows forecasters to predict, with greater accuracy than before, the timing of fog and cloud formation and when it will clear, helping to mitigate ground delays. Also among the benefits of the satellite’s high-resolution and rapid-scan capability is a significant improvement in detecting and analyzing wildfires and the extent of smoke coverage.
GOES-17 captures infrared imagery of Alaska storm GOES-17 is intended to replace GOES-15, which has been operational as GOES West since December 2011. Convective clouds can be seen forming on the windward side of the mountain slopes of the islands.
Tropical Floater 1. It features the most advanced technology NOAA has ever flown in a polar orbit to capture more precise observations of the world’s atmosphere, land, and waters.“NOAA now has both types of advanced satellites — geostationary and polar-orbiting — in operation. Pacific - Wide View : Eastern East Pacific (from GOES East) Central Pacific: East Pacific: Northeast Pacific: GOES West Satellite Imagery. Like GOES-16, its sister satellite operating as GOES East, GOES-17 is designed to provide advanced imagery and atmospheric measurements of Earth from 22,300 miles above the equator. Now that GOES-17 is broadcasting data from its permanent home at 137.2 degrees West, look out for some spectacular new satellite imagery from the Last Frontier and the Aloha State.
This infrared imagery, from GOES-17's ABI Channel 13, shows a broad area of low pressure over the Gulf of Alaska on Nov. 13, 2018.GOES-17 saw the snow-covered peaks of southern Alaska, in this Nov. 14, 2018 image, seen at 4 p.m.
Geostationary Satellite Data. This information helps firefighters on the ground combat fires more effectively and emergency managers plan life-saving evacuations sooner.“The GOES-17 ABI is now projected to deliver more than 97 percent of the data it was designed to provide, a testament to the skill and dedication of the engineers and all the GOES project team members,” said Stephen Volz, Ph.D., director, “The latest GOES series of satellites play a critical role protecting the public each day, ensuring better data reaches the forecasters who safeguard countless American lives from weather-related disaster.”NOAA also announced that NOAA-20, the first spacecraft in the Joint Polar Satellite System, is operating as NOAA’s primary afternoon polar satellite. Here are the first stunning new images GOES-17 shared with us this week: GOES-17's Advanced Baseline Imager (ABI) captured this GeoColor view of high-level clouds moving over low clouds above the Hawaiian Islands on Nov. 13, 2018. GOES-17 (GOES-WEST) Launched: 2018 Organisation: NOAA Launched 1 Mar 2018. However, due to technical issues discovered during the testing phase of the Advanced Baseline Imager (ABI), NOAA will operate both satellites in unison until early July 2019. This web site should not be used to support operational observation, forecasting, emergency, or disaster mitigation operations, either …
